My FIRST Gardening Experience!

I have been wanting to grow herbs for cooking purposes. Usually when I look up recipes online, they would always refer to fresh herbs as one of the ingredients and I felt that if my cooking could incorporate those freshly plucked herbs then my dishes would probably be enhanced.(OK, maybe you think that I should just improve my cooking skills...Oh well.)
Furthermore, by having your own grown herbs, you would be able to control its growing process where chemical addition could be minimized and hence,  healthier food can be made from them. How awesome!

I just came back from Bangkok and during the trip, I went to Chatuchak for shopping and during then, I decided to buy my seeds for gardening. There were an assortments of seeds in the shop that I went to and the owner spoke good english hence, I was able to seek some advice on plant growing from him. He told me that the seeds sold there could also be grown in Singapore as our climates were similar. YAY! I ended up with a packet of Holy Basil, Shallot and Parsley.

Day 1: Let's get started!
This afternoon, I made the effort to go down to a nearby nursery with my dad to get the soil for my plants.(Thank you Dad for the ride!) I heed the suggestions of the workers there with regard to growing my plants and I took 2 bags of soil ( burnt soil and mixed soil) and a bag of compost. In all randomness, I also bought a mint plant. All these cost about $12.50. I was told to mix the burnt soil, mixed soil and compost in a 2:2:1 ratio and when I actually did it, I accidentally made it a 1:1:1 ratio. Let us see if all would still go well. I read somewhere that if the compost is too much, there may be possible infestations due to rapid and tender growth. Cross-fingers now!

Steps I was told to follow:
1. Mix burnt soil, mixed soil and compost in 2:2:1 ratio
2. Pour the mixture into the pot filling almost to the top but leave some space for the seeds planting
3. Scatter about 30 odd seeds in each pot
4. Cover the seeds with about 1.5cm thick of the mixture
5. Water the plants and leave them in the Sun
6. Water the plants daily
7. Add fertilizers after two to three weeks later

I'll be updating occasionally on the progress of my plants. Stay tuned!
