After a long hiatus from blogging (due to the crazy workload of a university student), I am BACK! Anyway, I promised to frequently update about my plants and here is a long overdue one!
My basil plant has flourished beautifully and almost every day, I would stare in awe at my growing plants. My other plants, Parsley and Mint, are also growing stealthily. The growth of my Mint has always been consistent thus I was never worried about its growth but on the other hand, my Parsley plant was always the slower of the bunch and I was, at one point, afraid that it would not grow. Parsley now has 2 strong shoots and it is comforting to see it growing:)
There were a couple of interesting sightings in these few months away from blogging.
INDOOR WEIRDNESS
Firstly, there was a period of time, after my shallots got stolen, that I placed my plants indoor. During this period, my plants seemed to attract more bugs (aphids?) and fungi would grow as often as they die(see the picture in the slideshow). I learnt in a few modules of my course that Fungi thrives in acidic pH soil and hence, I deduced that my soil was acidic. So what? Err...I don't really know what effect that would have on my plant's growth though. Oh well.
I then decided to place it outdoors once more (with a little trepidation that it would get stolen again :'( ) to try and get rid of the bugs. I believed that my plants were not strong enough as sunlight was quite limited indoors and therefore, the bugs tried to attack my weak plants. Anyway, it seemed that placing my plants outdoors where there were more sunlight in the day helped as the bugs disappeared.
THE MILLIPEDE ATTACK
Just 2 weeks ago, I saw a millipede (I googled it to confirm that it was not a centipede instead) lurking around my parsley plant and it looked something like this. I was kind of grossed out and worried that my plant may not survive if it attacks it but I decided to wait it out. A few days later, I saw it curled up and it looked like it had already started decaying. What a relief right?! No, the next day, there were a few small white worm-like insects. OMG! Freaked me out and once more, I held myself back and waited to see if anything would happen.
NOTHING! And just like how they magically appeared, they vanished in the same mystifying manner.
Those are some of the fascinating experiences thus far and I am sure more would occur.
OK! Tune in next time for more plant community's adventure story!
